Harry Potter CAL (Crochet Along)

We’ve decided to join the Sirdar Crochet Along, which this year is Harry Potter themed, I ordered Chelsea’s kit from The Wool Factory however they appear to now be sold out, you can still order the full kit directly from Sirdar at £50. Chelsea’s kit was delivered today and I’ll run through exactly what you get, including pictures. I’ve decided I’ll also follow along with the pattern and videos and I’ve just put in an order for just the wool separately, not kit with exclusive extras and that come to just under £40, so really when you think about the pattern, videos and additional gifts the £50 price point is really good value.

What is the Harry Potter CAL? We’ve done a few CALs before but usually they have been organised by Hobbii and as much as we’ve started them they are very much still work in progress. That’s okay though because the point of the CAL isn’t that you need to go at the same pace as everyone, in fact Sirdar have a Facebook group setup specifically for this project and one of the first things they note is some people will finish this in 6 weeks, some might take 2 years, it really doesn’t matter, you get to go at your own pace. The CAL starts on the 4th of November and runs for 6 weeks, with a new part of the pattern released every week, this includes full written instructions with pictures, but the best part I’ve always found is they also release videos of how to actually do each part, and for a beginner like me that’s gold! Patterns can be intimidating or at times confusing if your not confident in the terminology, so watching the video alongside the pattern is extremely useful.
