This was very much not a project in need of some yarn, but a lot of multi-colour yarn I had bulk-bought in need of a project. I love a bargain and Woolbox very much knows this, emailing me daily with deals on yarn, and if its multi-coloured and purple or blue, then its a no brainer, I’m buying it, if the deal is 5 for £10 thats a great reason to buy… 20, although I’m told getting 5 would be enough, I can’t help but think whats better than a good deal but multiple good deals, and getting over that £35 mark even gets free delivery, and thus our back bedroom is just yarn and Pooh bears!
Anyways, on this particular deals day I’ve somehow managed to get a significant amount of Athena Jewels Enchant (Colour 005 Aladdin) which is a nice blue, purple, grey and white. It’s 100% acrylic and around 360m, as of today (19/10/26) its on a 5 for £10 special which at full price of £4.49 each is a great buy. That been said, I would buy it again at the deal price, I would not pay full price for the quality, its not horrible, but it doesn’t feel as nice as some premium Emu or Stylecraft alternatives.

So I’ve talked about the yarn and the problem of having a lot with no project to use it on. A quick google search for some inspiration and I spotted a lot of star blankets, I noticed a lot of the Facebook groups seemed to have a trend of star blankets also, so I figured I’d give it a go, and to be honest there are various different patterns, but I settled on a very simple one, where after the first 5 rows you’re really just repeating with 2 rows increasing by 1 then the 3rd remaining consistent, and you can really just go on for as long as you like.
This project mostly sits in a bag now and I take it away whenever I’m traveling for work or am in need of something to kill some time, so it doesn’t get a lot of time and attention, I think the last proper progress I’ve made was our last getaway to the middle of nowhere holiday, we both just lazed about for the week crafting and watching Netflix. As it stands, the star is approx 114cm at its widest point as can be seen in the pictures below, measured with my trusty Connor bear measuring tape. Its laid out on a super king size bed to give you an idea of how big it currently is, and I currently don’t really have a target size, I’ll just keep going until the world ends or I run out of yarn, whichever comes first, at this point its 50/50 odds on which.
